Testosterone And Doping Tests

How to establish the fact of doping? In case are registered metabolite peaks of nandrolone and stanozolol  - it is doping positivity because those peaks should not be observed at all. If was detected peak of testosterone, how to distinguish natural endogenous testosterone from synthetic exogenous one? There was no answer to this question for quite a long time, and up to 1984 testosterone as doping could not be detected.

Though it was known that after testosterone administration its concentration gets increased then smoothly lowers, but this change may be found during laboratory tests. Doping control has just one test where this concentration is investigated. Measure of this one concentration cannot be used to make doping test, because natural testosterone is found in urine of men and women in a  quite large concentration diapason from 10 to 100 nanogram per milliliter.

Professor Manfred Donike, the founder and director of Institute of Biochemistry at the German Sport University in Cologne - world famous antidoping laboratory., was first who started to detect testosterone. He learned to synthesize chemical agent MSTFA which transformed molecules of testosterone, anabolic steroids and metabolites into compounds easy to investigate.

Then Donike took an important decision and started to measure not concentration of testosterone but the correlation of oncentrations of testosterone (Š¢)  and epitestosterone (E) – its natural isomere whose origins were not known. Injecting testosterone changed dramatically the correlation T to E. As the entity was taken the norm of correlation T\E.
